PEGO’s concerns at the bargaining table are of interest to all Ontarians. During Question Period on October 29, 2024, the important role of PEGO members in development of Ontario’s infrastructure as well as the contributions of PEGO members towards public safety priorities were raised in the Ontario legislature.

For the first time in the union’s 35-year history, PEGO members will commence strike action on October 8, 2024.
Key issues at the table are recruitment and retention of engineering and land surveying expertise needed to deliver Ontario’s ambitious infrastructure agenda.
Without proper investment in Ontario’s engineering and land surveying experts, key infrastructure projects will be delayed.

Minister of Labour issues No Board Report for PEGO-Treasury Board Collective Bargaining Negotiations
On September 21, 2024, the Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) issued a “No Board” report with respect to the Collective Bargaining Negotiations that have been occurring between the PEGO and Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) bargaining teams, for the last 15 months.
PEGO will therefore be in a legal strike position on October 8, 2024.

PEGO releases Policy Paper on Delays in Infrastructure Project Delivery in Ontario
PEGO has released a policy paper titled “EXPECT DELAYS – PEGO’s Policy Paper on Public Service Engineering and Ontario’s Infrastructure Priorities – August 2024”
The purpose of this paper is to bring awareness about key structural issues in the Ontario Public Service which are contributing to delays in the delivery of critical public infrastructure projects in Ontario under the Ontario government’s $185 billion capital plan.

Strong majority strike vote by union representing the province’s Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors
Over 95% of members of the Professional Engineers Government of Ontario (PEGO) have voted in favour of providing their union with the authorization to engage in strike action, if necessary, to achieve a fair new collective agreement. The union’s strike vote attracted a very high degree of participation, with 90% of members casting a ballot.
